GlobeCaster; Helps Police Department Effectively Train Officers and Inform Citizens

The Sacramento Police Department uses their GlobeCaster to more effectively protect and serve the citizens of Sacramento.

During pre-shift briefings, officers view a video that informs and trains them to deal with timely law enforcement issues such as local criminal activity, officer safety tips, and litigation prevention. These videos, which include footage from cruiser cameras, media reports, and safety films, add visual punch to verbal briefings.

In addition to training videos, Baker produces a weekly crime alert commercial focusing on one local fugitive. The public service announcements air each Tuesday on a local affiliate station and on cable to keep citizens aware of area criminals.

Using a GlobeCaster, Sacramento Police Department Media Specialist Mike Baker single-handedly produces the training videos and the commercials. He says, "The GlobeCaster has become the main engine for all of our video production needs."

The department's budget is limited, but as Baker notes, the ability to continually train every Sacramento police officer with frequent, high-impact videos has empowered the City of Sacramento to provide timely and effective training with minimal cost. In addition to savings realized on training, the efficient all-in-one design of the GlobeCaster has enabled the department to save budgetary dollars on maintenance of expensive stand-alone production components.

As Sacramento begins to equip every police cruiser with computers, Baker is creating on-demand training videos that can be called upon using a keyword search to provide immediate information for officers who are in pursuit or handling difficult situations.
