Major University Uses GlobeCaster; in Educational, Athletic, and Governmental Capacities

The University of Oklahoma TV and Satellite Services team and their GlobeCaster support the university in a multitude of capacities. They are also responsible for supporting the State of Oklahoma Department of Human Services, a state agency that relies on the university's TV and Satellite Services team to communicate important information to employees statewide.

Oklahoma's Department of Human Services (DHS) is comprised of more than 90 offices across the state and is responsible for statewide management of issues associated with social service fields, such as day care and certain healthcare bodies. To keep employees current with state procedures, information and training, DHS relies on Oklahoma University's TV and Satellite Services department to transmit live broadcasts via satellite to all 90 DHS sites. These broadcasts train employees how to do everything from correctly filling out new state forms, as well as showing how to handle unique situations through reenactments of scenarios. In this capacity, GlobeCaster is used exclusively to produce on-screen graphics, names and titles of guests, call-in phone numbers, and to transmit the signal to satellite.

"We use the machine's switcher and character generator extensively, and we have saved a great deal of money by not having to buy separate broadcast components..."

Department Broadcast Engineer Richard Feinberg says, "We use the machine's switcher and character generator extensively, and we have saved a great deal of money by not having to buy separate broadcast components just for switching and character generation, let alone the other features it offers."

As a department of a major university, the TV and Satellite Services group have a lot to do on campus too. Academically, their responsibilities include producing videos that archive O.U. faculty inventions and research findings, as well as revealing these important discoveries in live news conferences. GlobeCaster is a cornerstone to these functions, and it is also used to produce public service announcements, athletic team highlight reels, and tornado documentaries for a national weather center that resides on campus.

Last year, the TV and Satellite Services group produced a highlight video of the school's football team to get the highly ranked O.U. Sooner powerhouse excited about upcoming games. The football team went on to win the NCAA national title, but they weren't the only award winners from the school. The TV and Satellite Services team won two national awards for their motivational video. Today, the 2001 Telly Award and the 2001 Videographer Award now share office space with the University of Oklahoma TV and Satellite Services team.

GlobeCaster is playing an essential role for educational institutions like this one.
